Group Classes and Master Classes

Group Classes

Periodically, the Music Academy of Garden City offers group classes for specific instruments. Usually these classes are for beginners and allow students to try get the foundations of an instrument before committing to one-on-one instruction. In the past we have offered group guitar, piano, mandolin, and ukulele classes which have always been a wonderful experience for the students involved. We even held a "Guitar Builders Workshop" where students made their own electric guitars and basses and were taught by world-class guitar builder Cristian Mirabella, who currently sells his hand-made instruments for prices upward of $50,000. Please give us a call or send us an email for information about our group class sessions.

Master Classes

The Music Academy of Garden City also offers periodic master classes which are open to all registered students and also community members. These classes are geared toward a specific instrument or genre, and a guest artist is brought in to teach on a variety of subjects. Students have the opportunity to perform with and be heard by many of New York's top players. In the past, the Music Academy has hosted Grammy-nomminated jazz drummer Matt Wilson and Hofstra University Professor Dr. David Lalama, who have taught master classes on jazz improvisation. Last summer, Ben Ward, winner of BMI's John Lennon Award for songwriting, led a masterclass on songwriting and lyric writing.
